The Cumberland Museum and Archives is pleased to present two events featuring poet, activist, and researcher Salimah Valiani, PhD, as a part of Miners Memorial:
In ‘The Future of Mining in South Africa’, Dr. Valiani assesses from a feminist perspective what mining has meant for women over time in both Canada and South Africa, where it has been a key driver of economic development over many years. The talk takes place from 2:30 to 3:15pm at the Cumberland Cultural Centre, and is by donation.
Following the talk, a poetry reading by Dr. Valiani is presented at the Cumberland Museum and Archives from 3:30 to 4pm. The reading is made possible with the financial assistance of the Canada Council through the Writers’ Union of Canada, and is free to attend.
