Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle

The famous opera composer Rossini named this work with a twinkle in his eye, because it's the opposite of small and solemn! The Petite Messe was commissioned by a Parisian countess for her private chapel, and had its premiere in 1864. Rossini preferred this original arrangement with two pianos and harmonium (a kind of organ) to the orchestral version he composed later on.
The 60-voice choir takes flight on some complex fugues, and the operatic solos are performed by soprano Jennifer Turner, mezzo-soprano Hillary Tufford, tenor Benjamin Butterfield and bass Louis Dillon.
The mighty keyboard team consists of pianists Kinza Tyrrell and Kimberley-Ann Bartczak, with Michael Molnar on harmonium.
