Julie, originally from Strathaven, Scotland, now based out of Vancouver, taught Amanda from the age of 11, when she first began on clarinet. Since Amanda�s graduation from the UVic Music Performance program in April, the two have teamed up to give a concert of their favourite duets. They will be joined by Rita Attrot, reknowned pianist and teacher at the BC Conservatory of Music.

The pieces featured include works by Mozart, Debussy, Malcolm Arnold, and Mendelssohn. There will also be an exciting duet arrangement of Brahms Sonata in F minor, op. 120 No. 1. The years of friendship between the two players bring a fun and vibrant energy to the stage. Not only will your ears be filled with the sound of beautiful music, but laughter as the two recall favourite stories from their time together.

Julie was formally trained at Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland and Trinity College of Music in London, England. While there, she was a member of the Thayer Octet and Amabile Wind Quintet. As a soloist, she toured Germany with the Thames Wind Ensemble performing the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto. She emigrated to Canada in 1993 and has since established herself as a peripatetic instructor and clinician. Julie currently freelances, performing in pit orchestras and various ensembles in the Lower Mainland.

Amanda, originally from Port Moody, BC, now lives in Victoria and has performed frequently with the Dynamic Trio, a woodwind ensemble, around town. During her undergrad at UVic she was a member of the UVic Orchestra as well as Concert Master for the UVic Wind Symphony. She has been a member of the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra for the last 3 years, and enjoys performing as frequently as possible in the community. She also teaches privately and plans to pursue a Masters Degree in Clarinet performance in the near future.
