At a time of unprecedented turmoil in the Middle East, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, and the Departments of Political Science and History at the University of Victoria, invite you to hear veteran Middle East correspondent and author Robert Fisk. Mr. Fisk will speak in Victoria on Sunday, September 20th, at 7pm, in the David Lam Auditorium (Room A144 MacLaurin Bldg.), University of Victoria.

Fisk's talk will focus on how the Syrian civil war and the insurgency into Syria by a multitude of terrorist groups, especially the so-called “Islamic State”, have destabilized the existing order in the Middle East. The title of Fisk's lecture will be "Goodbye Mr. Sykes, Adieu M. Picot: How the ISIS 'caliphate' frightens the Middle East -- and us".

Mr. Fisk's address will be followed by a Question & Answer period. Multiple award-winning journalist Robert Fisk has been based in Beirut since 1976. He has been the Middle East correspondent for the British newspaper The Independent since 1988. Fisk is the author of five books, including the seminal tome The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East (2005), as well as Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War (1990) and The Age of the Warrior: Selected Writings (2008).
