April 2, 2014 Victoria, BC Fresh from a tour of Whitehorse, Victorias Pinnacle Brass Quintet will ring in the spring at its first local concert of the 2014, held April 12 at 2:30 p.m. at St. John the Divine (1611 Quadra St).

Audiences will hear music by Astor Piazzolla, J.S. Bach, and film composer Michael Kamen, as well as renditions of A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and Simple Gifts.

The quintet will premiere trombonist Scott MacInness composition, Quintet No. 1, written for fellow quintet member Eugene Dowling on the occasion of his retirement from over 30 years of music instruction at the University of Victoria.

I dedicate this lush, romantic work to my colleague, mentor and friend, says MacInnes, a music instructor at the University of Victoria. For over 30 years, Eugene has shared his passion for the art and craft of music with thousands of students. He is most worthy of this dedication. He will be celebrated every time the piece is played.

Dowling, a tuba/euphonium player, has organized Canadas oldest Tuba Christmas concert at Market Square for over 35 years, which attracts over 70 tubas from around the pacific northwest and has raised thousands of dollars for local charities. Dowling was nominated for a Juno in Best Classical Album in 1992 for The English Tuba.

Pinnacle Brass Quintet is the resident brass ensemble of St. John the Divine (1611 Quadra St) and presents four concerts per year in the sanctuary. More information is available at www.pinnaclebrassquintet.com.
