Rick Scott and Nico Rhodes ROOTS & GROOVES Hillbilly concertos, Appalachian grooves! In 2017 veteran folk artist Rick Scott joined forces with young keyboard ace Nico Rhodes for an inter-generational smorgasbord of roots, blues and humour. In their first year as a duo they played 30 concerts to ovations around BC and released a ROOTS & GROOVES CD recorded live from the floor in a single day.

Since pioneering rogue folk with iconic BC trio Pied Pumkin, Rick has performed in 9 countries and released 19 recordings honoured with 3 Juno nominations, Parents’ Choice, WCMA and Canadian Folk Music Awards. He’s Goodwill Ambassador for the Down Syndrome Research Foundation, curator of the Protection Island Museum and Canada’s leading proponent of Appalachian mountain dulcimer. Rick says “Nico Rhodes is on fire! Not since the Pumkin have I experienced such unfettered creativity.”

At 29, Nico Rhodes is in constant demand as arranger and musical director for long run stage shows, when not touring with his own jazz trio or his mother, Joelle Rabu. Nico’s childhood soundtrack was Bach, Piaf and Rick Scott. Age 8 he wrote Rick a fan letter and age 23 he arranged Rick’s music for symphony. Nico says, “Playing with my childhood hero is more fun than I ever could imagine, we shake each other up and the audience gets to come along for the ride.”

QUOTES: “ Incredible musicians, wonderful entertainers. I loved this show and so did my 91- year old mother!”

“Individually Rick Scott and Nico Rhodes are highly entertaining, gifted musicians. Together they are a force of nature. They blew the house away. ROOTS & GROOVES is a musical gift for any audience: talent, chemistry, stories, songs and humour resulting in two standing ovations”. Whistler Arts

“Rick and Nico reinvent ten. The energy they pour into their performance could light up a city. So much talent, so much joy, so much love. What a terrific experience.” Duncan Showroom

“Nico Rhodes is astonishing, you have to hear and see him caress, cajole and at times almost punish the piano. Breathtakingly fresh sounds and style radiate from this young musician.”
