Resistance Rising Choir Talks about the Heart Things
Founded in September of 2018 by Artistic Director, Rama DelaRosa, Resistance Rising Choir is dedicated to building community, elevating awareness and inspiring action through vivid a cappella harmonies and lyrics that express the choirs mutual values of social and environmental integrity.
Artistic Director, Rama DelaRosa says, “We are part of a global rising tide calling out for social and environmental justice.”
In partnership with Love Music/Hate Racism, the Resistance Rising Choir is pleased to announce their Second Annual Winter Concert, and Fundraiser. .
Talkin‘bout the Heart Things December 19th 6-9 pm at the Victoria Event Centre on the unceded territory of the Lekwungen people
Talkin’bout the Heart Things will feature music, poetry and talks that address important issues that are 'hard' to talk about but are also close to the 'heart'.
The Resistance Rising Choir’s compelling a capella activist anthems will be interspersed in a powerhouse line up of indigenous and youth performers and speakers featuring:
Ms.Panik - Haida, fem-powered, loop-driven, hip-hop for the soul
Tawahum Bige - Lutselk'e Dene and Plains Cree, anti-oppression spoken word artist and land defender
Ellie Green - Emerging youth poet from Saltspring Island
and Keynote Speaker Patricia Dawn of the Red Willow Womyn’s Society
In addition to this stellar line-up the event includes a silent auction featuring unique items, exciting raffle prizes, and a fabulous bake sale including vegan and gluten free options.
50% of the events net income will go to support the work of the Red Willow Womyn’s Society
Founded in 2009, by a small group of Coast Salish women, The Red Willow Womyn’s Society is a grassroots Indigenous nonprofit organization that acts to support indigenous mothers in navigating daily barriers as well as providing online advocacy to help strengthen families, prevent child apprehension, and honour the role of mothers as sacred life-givers.
