REENIE is a Toronto indie-folk songwriter. She’s joined by her wife Lea Kirstein, who’s gracefully gritty string stylings contribute to a raw acoustic soundscape. Their music has been described as “chamber-folk-pop”, with the soulful melodies and introspective lyricism of alternative pop music intertwining with the instrumentation and layered rhythmic drive of contemporary folk.
Guitarist, singer & veteran tunesmith Reenie Perkovic draws on her decade of bandleading with powerhouse, bluesy vocals. Her original project has recorded at Canterbury studios with legendary engineer Jeremy Darby (Keith Richards, Sara Bareilles, the Barenaked Ladies.) Violist Lea Kirstein fuses her classical, jazz and Celtic worlds into hard-hitting, percussive string arrangements. She brings her experiences recording with Juno-nominated fiddle giant Oliver Schroer, Juno-nominated songstress Teresa Doyle, as well as touring Canada and the U.S. with the Boston-based Folk Arts Quartet. www.listentoreenie.com
