Reclaimed, Reworked, Reborn

This mixed exhibition features recycled textile artwork by Catherine Mick, who also invited other BC artists to send in their fibre art containing recycled components.
This exhibition will showcase the upcycled textile garments of Catherine Mick, who has spent a lifetime experimenting on how to repurpose fabrics to give garments a new life. Catherine is a spinner and a weaver, so she breaks old garments with worn out sections down to their most basic components and then spins and weaves beautiful new fabrics from them.
Catherine shares her work openly. She wants to show the world what rags can become by making things that look socially acceptable. She does this work for the joy of creating things and says “I do like my magic”. Her advice is to use excellent fabrics, and colours you love to work with.
Catherine is joined by over 20 other artists showcasing the many ways we can save our textiles from the landfill and allow them to be reborn in beautiful works of art. These artists have brought in a range of items from baskets woven from T-Shirts to bedspreads made from wedding kimonos to sculptures and art dolls made from old fabric and needlework, with plenty of cushions and purses and pieces of clothing in between.
