In beautiful Tofino, a rare evening of music made famous by the leading ladies of the music theatre stage, featuring the star of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, Rebecca Caine! Accompanied by acclaimed pianist Robert Kortgaard. Rebecca will pay a musical tribute to the performances of many of the world's leading ladies of musical theatre.
Rebecca Caine was born in Toronto and studied at the Guildhall School of Music, London. Uniquely, her career has been divided between opera and musical theatre, making her West End debut at 19 in the role of Laurey in Oklahoma! She then sang the role of Eliza in My Fair Lady on the national tour. While making her debut at Glyndebourne as Amor in L'incoronazione di Poppea, she was asked to join the Royal Shakespeare Company where she created the role of Cosette in Les Miserables. After a successful West End run she joined the original cast of Phantom of the Opera to play Christine opposite Michael Crawford. She then returned to Toronto to repeat the role in the Canadian premiere of Phantom of the Opera. During her run in Toronto she joined the Canadian Opera Company to make her highly praised North American debut in the title role of Lulu. Ms. Caine has performed extensively with the Canadian Opera Company in Holland, New Zealand, Prague, Scotland and at many more international venues.
Robert Kortgaard, originally from Regina and Calgary, completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Julliard School in New York City, and furthered his musical studies in Italy and England. He has performed as a soloist with major Canadian orchestras and has given recitals across North America as well as many other countries. He is one of Canada�s most respected concert pianists, having appeared with most of the country's leading orchestras and recital societies. Mr. Kortgaard has become an in-demand colleagues of Canada's most esteemed vocalists, and is a frequent partner of sopranos Measha Brueggergosman and Wendy Nielsen, mezzo-soprano Jean Stilwell and cabaret diva Patricia O'Callaghan. He is also artistic director of the Indian River Festival in Prince Edward Island.
