Re-Envisioning the Past: A Tsimshian Journey
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
In her first solo exhibition at Alcheringa Gallery, Tsimshian artist Dorothy Jarvis presents a rich panoply of paintings using a technique developed over the past twenty years. It is through her grandmother’s tradition of storytelling, that Dorothy finds the vision and inspiration to continue painting. Her unique colour palette softly erodes the familiar scenery into an otherworldly era. These dreamy narratives in her work evoke stories from her past, bringing new life to the memories of her people, places, and culture. "The Tsimshian people, totem poles, and history are magic to the artists brush, and I am humbled to capture their beauty." - Dorothy Jarvis
