Westshore Quilters� Guild may be just 5 � years old, but its enthusiastic and dedicated members are carrying on a long established, respected tradition dating back into the early eleventh century, where European artisans formed guilds out of an emerging necessity to establish quality and market controls. Today�s guilds are established more for encouragement and fellowship along with promotion of a shared passion � and the Westshore Quilters� Guild is no exception.
Located in the historic, beautiful city of Victoria, on Vancouver Island, the Westshore Quilters� Guild is one of the most active associations around. Quilt workshops, camps, a comprehensive and current member library, sewing gatherings, a monthly charm swap, an active presence in many local community events, and group excursions to quilt shows all serve to augment the charitable activities, of a most compassionate group of quilters! With an average of a hundred quilts donated to charity each year, these caring members diversify their talents to include handmade items for the Compassionate Warehouse and the making of pillows for breast cancer patients. Yearly, the Guild has a very successful display at the Luxton Fair as well as donating a quilt for the fair raffle.
The fourth weekend in March this year is the long-awaited date for the Westshore Quilt Guild�s third non-juried show. The anticipated 300 plus quilts on display will be enhanced by community vignettes. Held every two years, Westshore Quilt Guild shows focus on highlighting the techniques and workmanship of local quilters, with all skill levels and quilt sizes represented. This year�s show, planned and run by an amazing 17 committees, includes a Guild boutique, merchant mall, Challenge quilts, a variety of demonstrations, raffle quilts, the tremendously fun �Name That Song� Quilt Block Game and an �I Spy� game for the kids. To ensure that no one misses out on acquiring one of the Westshore Quilt Guild�s trademark pincushions, so popular in their first show, the 100 plus members are very busy crafting an astonishing total of 7000 handcrafted pincushions � and they are closing in on their goal!
