Qualicum Beach Legion Remembrance Services: Candlelight Tribute Ceremony
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
The service will include the customary addresses by the Mayor and Branch President; followed by the laying of the candles assisted by members of the Beaufort Squadron Air Cadets. Members of the public are welcome to purchase candles ($3.50 ea.) at the Qualicum Beach Legion by Nov. 9th; & lay them during the ceremony.
The Candlelight Tribute Service was started in 1995 in the Netherlands when Dutch children laid lighted candles on the graves of Canadian soldiers, leaving them burning overnight in silent tribute to the fallen. Since that time, these tributes have increased in Europe and here in Canada. The candles that we use are made in the Netherlands specifically for this purpose. The subtle glow of these candles, especially when placed in numbers, creates a solemn and unforgettable image for the evening of Remembrance.
