Join us to celebrate the increasing numbers of Purple Martins, a Species At Risk in BC, and see all the bird activity at the largest Purple Martin colony on Vancouver Island. Learn more about the BC Purple Martin Recovery Program and how a nest box program has helped increase the population from 5 pairs in 1985 to over 1000 pairs in 2014. See and hear what a martin colony is like with 60+ breeding pairs. See adult birds feeding young at a real time nest cam. Participate in banding of Purple Martin nestlings at 3 pm. Hear stories about Purple Martin activities around the Strait of Georgia and other parts of Canada. Display tables and light refreshments will be available. Wear something purple!
