CONSCIENCE, THE LAW, AND ASSISTED DEATH Should you follow a law your conscience says is wrong? Many Canadians faced this dilemma before the law against assisted death changed. What did they do? What should they have done? Has our new law fixed the problem?
Gary Bauslaugh is currently a writer and editor, and formerly a post-secondary instructor and administrator. His administrative roles included VP of Instruction and Planning at Malaspina University College (now VIU) in the early 1990s.
Bauslaugh, who has a PhD in Chemistry from McGill University, has written scientific research papers, as well as popular articles and editorials for such publications as The Skeptical Inquirer, The Humanist, Humanist Perspectives, University Affairs, Policy Options, and the Vancouver Sun. He was also editor of the magazine Humanist Perspectives from 2003 to 2008.
Bauslaugh has written several books, including Robert Latimer: A Story of Justice and Mercy (2010), The Secret Power of Juries (2013), and The Right to Die: The Courageous Canadians who Gave Us the Right to a Dignified Death (2016).
