Victoria, BC - SAANICHTON BIBLE FELLOWSHIP/PROJECT HELP HAITI TO HOLD SILENT AUCTION & TALENT SHOW TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A HUMANITARIAN AID TRIP TO HAITI

IN MARCH 2016 Saanichton Bible Fellowship (SBF) of Victoria, BC (2159 Mt. Newton Cross Road) will be hosting a silent auction and talent show on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 7:00PM to raise funds for a humanitarian aid trip to the the village of Bassin-Bleu in the South- Central region of Haiti.

SBF aims to raise $40,000 or more to enable the group to build a home for a single mother in the village and provide multiple motorcycle taxi microloans which will enable locals to begin supporting themselves financially. Microloans are very small loans to impoverished borrowers who typically lack collateral, steady employment and a verifiable credit history. They are designed not only to support entrepreneurship and alleviate poverty, but also in many cases to empower individuals and uplift entire communities by extension.

On 12 January 2010, Haiti was struck by a magnitude-7.0 earthquake. This was the country's most severe earthquake in over 200 years. This earthquake was reported to have left up to 316,000 people dead and 1.6 million homeless. The country has yet to fully recover, due to both the severity of the damage Haiti endured in 2010, as well as a government that was ineffective well before the earthquake.
