PRODIGALS is a new movie based on a play by Sean Minogue. It tells the story of Wesley (David Alpay, ARARAT), a man who left his hometown of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario five years earlier with big dreams. He is compelled to return to this small town from Toronto to testify in a court trial on behalf of an old friend who is charged with murder. His ex-girlfriend (Sara Canning, HELLO DESTROYER -- which screened as title #2 in the Indie Film Series -- as well as popular TV series THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS) is now involved with another man, though he still feels attracted to her. His friends seem to expect him to be the hero who will turn the court case around. All of this is a lot of pressure on a guy who never really wanted to return home in the first place. PRODIGALS is directed by Michelle Ouellet (AFTERPARTY) with a strong Canadian cast also starring Kanelito Horn, Nicholas Carella and Jamieson Parker.
Director Michelle Ouellet and writer/actor Nicholas Carella will ‘beam in” for a digital Skype Q&A after the screening!
(2018, scope, 110 minutes. Rated 14a for coarse language.)
