For August the Potters Place Gallery is featuring the work of two local potters, Maeva Collins and Sue Taylor.
Sue is a long time valley resident and a co-founding member of the Potter’s Place Collective. She creates both functional ware and one of a kind carved pieces. Her work reflects her many years of making pots in Canada and her degree work at the University of Western England.
Sue lives and pots on her rural property in Merville. She uses a hand built sprung arch gas fired salt kiln to achieve the traditional “orange peel” effect on her porcelain work. Her work has been displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Maeva also lives on a small rural acreage which provides her with the freedom to pit fire and wood fire her creations. She specializes in unique burnished pit fired vessels with silky surfaces that beg to be touched. With her wood fired work, her goal is to produce pieces that are sophisticated in design and display wonderful colour and texture after firing.
Maeva derives great joy in creating her pieces and hopes that future owners will find as much pleasure in viewing and touching them as she has had in making them.
