“Portraits on Land and Sea” continues the celebratory year for the Linden Singers of Victoria with works by Canadian and American poets and composers, including the Emily Carr Suite by award-winning Victoria composer Brian Tate. Music Director Brian Wismath is delighted to showcase the work of his esteemed colleague. “Emily Carr wrote with that unique vision of our beautiful west coast and Brian Tate’s music lifts her words off the page with a dynamic pulse and energy.” The choir is also excited to perform a piece by another acclaimed Victoria composer Christine Donkin called This Fragile Web. This emotive work in three movements will feature a violin soloist. The text is by E. Pauline Johnson, a Canadian poet of Mohawk heritage who championed her Aboriginal ancestry in the late 19th century. Linden Singers tribute concert to poets and composers also includes songs by Jimmy Rankin, Matthew Emery and Jon Washburn. The choir is accompanied on piano by UVic professor Nancy Curry.
