This event will serve up poetry and prose meditations on childhood—the author’s own and that of children he has met throughout his life. This book examines not only the wonderment of childhood but also its dark corners, inescapable for a square peg growing up in the 1960s. References to the natural world, grade school ‘politics’, bullying, empowerment, identity, masculinity, family dynamics, and the nature of Play itself appear throughout this collection as Ian explores the dimensions of childhood—the ways in which he experienced it then and experiences it still.

Also on menu will be poem selections from another recent collection, "Animalian". This book explores the world of animals, our connection to nature, and our relationship to our own animal natures. Time permitting, Ian may also crack open the vault of his back catalogue with Repartee Press. Free event. Donations to Free Play Cafe appreciated ($5 suggested). Refreshments available.
