Poetry Classes: Sense of Place
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
This six-week seminar, to be held on Zoom, is designed to fuel your inner poet and forge connections to places of inspiration. We will visit poets past and present who wrote about their own special “sense of place.” Each class will open with a short talk by John about a period of literary history with an emphasis on the lyric form. Supportive, non-judgemental suggestions will be offered concerning students’ own original creations during each meeting.
John Edwards is the author of Juvenal The Sixteen Satires, Jordan River Poems, Apicius, and many other volumes of poetry. He is the Poet-In-Residence for the Arts Council Of Ladysmith And District. John studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in Latin and Greek; and subsequently attended the Victoria College Of Art. John has taught in the VIU ElderCollege since 2004 with courses in Greek Philosophy; Comparative Literature; and Shakespeare, whom he regards as an omniscient genius and the god of our beautiful English. His paintings and poems largely reflect the changing landscapes and moods of Vancouver Island.
