From March 2nd to May 5th, every Tuesday to Satursday inclusive.
Plants for the People is a solo exhibition of artwork by Nanette Moss. The show is intended to connect with the community through lively depictions of botanicals. The exhibition takes you behind the scenes by presenting sketches created as meditations alongside the mixed media paintings they inspired.
An audio tour by the artist will be accessible via QR code. Listen to a chat about the processes and meaning behind Nanette's work. Why plants? What does creativity have to do with facing fear?
About the Artist
Nanette Moss (b. 1973) is an emerging Canadian and American artist living in Nanaimo, BC. Moss came to mixed media visual art via multi-media performance art. She applies the same approach of spontaneity within a framework to push her skills, combining unexpected elements to shift the perspective of the viewer.
Hearing loss led Nanette from performance art to 2D art with a heightened focus on the visual and tactile senses. Nanette uses color, shape and texture to express emotion. Botanical illustration and expressionism are influences. Themes are transformation, the power of reframing, and healing through contemplation in nature.
In support of our community, 10% of the artist's sales in March will benefit the Nanaimo Foodshare Society.
