A supergroup of Canadian jazz talent led by saxophonist PJ Perry with Renee Rosnes on piano, Neil Swainson on bass and Terry Clarke on drums, perform at Hermann's Jazz Club as part of a four-city western Canadian tour.
PJ Perry is probably the greatest jazz alto saxophonist Canada has ever produced, and his playing keeps getting better. He is described in the Canadian Encyclopedia as a technically complete and intensely expressive altoist, among the most compelling exponents of the bebop tradition in Canada.
Joining Perry on stage will be Renee Rosnes, one of the premier pianists and composers of her generation. Regina-born, Vancouver-raised Rosnes established herself as a major talent shortly after relocating to New York early in her career. A powerful and sensitive musician, she has released 12 albums, four of which have won Juno Awards.
On bass, Neil Swainson has worked with Canadian luminaries Paul Horn, Moe Koffman, Ed Bickert, Rob McConnell and Peter Appleyard, and toured and recorded worldwide with Woody Shaw, Mel Torm, Diana Krall, George Shearing and others.
On drums will be the multiple-award-winner Terry Clarke, whose career encompasses such iconic events as playing with John Handy III when the Grammy nominated recording, Live at Monterey Jazz Fest (Columbia, 1966) was made, touring Japan and Europe with the late guitarist Jim Hall and pianist Oscar Peterson, and helping found Rob McConnell's Boss Brass.
