Nanaimo pianist Sayuri Kubota returns to perform for Victoria audiences, this time with all Polish music. She will play music composed by prominent polish composers such as Chopin, Szymanowski, and Paderewski.
Sayuri Kubota began taking piano lessons at the age of four. She once dreamed to be a professional pianist but became a mathematics teacher. After she moved to Canada, she did not play piano for over ten years. She realized that something important was missing in her life and resumed taking lessons with Ms. Teresa Marusarz-Borek. Sayuri performs regularly in recitals in Nanaimo.
In recent years, she participated in master classes with some acclaimed concert pianists including Krzysztof Jablonski, Anton Kuerti, Robert Silverman, and Janina Fialkowska.
She has also participated in the Rocky Mountain Amateur Piano Competition (Colorado Springs) in 2009 and CBC’s Piano Hero contest in 2015.
Admission by donations with all proceeds going to the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music Piano Fund.
