Enjoy a special morning and piano master class with one of Canada’s top award winning performing artists. The upcoming master class is for observers and students of all levels. Accomplished multi-award winning Canadian concert pianist and ATMA Classique recording artist Ian Parker will be conducting a Piano Master Class on Monday May 4th, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music at 375 Selby Street for observers and students.
Canada’s Ian Parker is from Vancouver, BC and resides in New York City during the concert season. Parker has earned the grand prize at the 2001 CBC National Radio Competition and top prize at the Canadian International Music Festival, Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition and the Corpus Christie International Competition. At Julliard he received the 2002 William Petschek Piano Debut Award and has won the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship twice. He performs regularly on CBC Radio and is an active recording artist. In 2010 he recorded the concerti (Ravel Concerto in G, Stravinsky Capriccio, and Gershwin Concerto in F), with the London Symphony under Michael Francis released on the record label ATMA Classique. In 2010 Ian Parker performed an all-fantasy solo album, and interpreted and performed the fantasies of Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann, (Op. 27, Nos. 1 and 2 “Quasi una Fantasia”) released on Azica Records.
Ian Parker began his piano studies at the age of three and now holds a Masters of Music degree from The Juilliard School where he studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky. While pursuing studies at Juilliard, he won the Sylva Gelber Career Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, a highly coveted award given annually to the “most talented Canadian artist.”
Parker has performed with numerous orchestras. His performances include concert events with the philharmonic orchestras of Buffalo, Louisiana and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom and the symphonies of Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Victoria, Quebec, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, National/Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Virginia Cicinnati, Honolulu, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Long Beach among others. International highlights include Ian Parker’s performances with the Eugene Symphony, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais/Brazil. Parker has also performed at the Britt and Brott festivals. Ian Parker made his recital debut at Lincoln Center at the Walter Reade Theater in 2004.
