For the first time ever, the Advance Teen Performance Company at Kate Rubin Drama Studio will present a play that is entirely written and performed by the teens themselves. The piece is partly inspired by Alice In Wonderland, as well as Neil Gaimans Mirror Mask, and Coraline. The show features shadow puppetry, projections, Slam poetry and original live songs (written by the students with mentor Katrina Kadoski of Cougar Annie Tales).
PHOTO|PHOBIA features six young writer/performers, three of which were last seen in last years hit, Metamorphoses:
Simple, elegant, lyrical, touching, and interpreted with exquisite attention to movement and song.will leave you full of wonder and hope for the eternal nature of human-kind on this earth. Janis Lacouvee
Directed by Kathleen Greenfield (Co-Artistic Director of SNAFU Dance Theatre and Director/Co Creator of smash hit, Little Orange Man and its follow-up Kitt & Jane: An interactive Survival Guide to the Near Post-Apocalyptic Future), and mentored by Kate Rubin (WHOS The Hobbit) with design mentor, Carole Klemm, this collaboratively created show addresses the fears of leaving home and finding identity in a surprisingly sophisticated and humorous way.
The show was written by all of us, so everyone in the group can feel it belongs to them. We used a creative collaboration process in which everyone had input via writing, music, art, and ideas, but was also required to let go of them for the greater good of the piece, which produced a play full of both our love and our conflict. Zoe Brimacombe (Teenage Company Member)
