Phillip hails from Nelson BC and is a regular with First After the Fire

After a disastrous piano recital at the age of 9, Philip quit performing music and focussed on playing ball hockey on the streets of Montreal. Many years later, tired of hearing him sing in the shower, Philip’s wife would suggest he sing with her in a community choir, and thus Philip’s long-dormant musical career was re-ignited. For more than a decade now he has attempted to squeeze music into every available spare moment. When not performing solo, Philip plays with First After the Fire, a Nelson-based folk band that recently released its first album.

As a singer-songwriter, Philip is first and foremost a story-teller. His songs are an alchemy of experience and imagination, inspired by his intense interest in people, nature, relationships and the questions life poses for us. Somehow, horses manage to find their way into a lot of his songs as well. His clear, authentic voice is supported by guitar, banjo, ukulele and harmonica. He has continued to stay away from the piano.
