Join us in celebration of the Persian new year, the birth of the earth, the spring equinox... and learn about the Iranian culture, try some yummy multicultural food, listen to live music, enjoy captivating dance performances, and many more.

Everyone in the community is welcomed to this free public arts and culture event, across all the social economical ideological dividing lines. Only your joyful spirit is requested!

Artists Profile:

The El Wehda Ensemble was originally formed in 2007 to perform live Middle Eastern music for the Aiewa School of Cultural Dances. The two groups collaborated for a number of public events and private functions. The band appreciates the variety of exotic melodies and rhythms originating from Mediterranean and Middle East regions. Their 2008 debut CD covered a wide range of music from Morocco to Turkey. The El Wehda Ensemble currently performs their own shows to enthusiastic audiences around Victoria. To contact, please write to: [email protected]

Darya Ensemble are a talented group of local artists, specialized in Persian classical music, with their most recent performance at the Alix Goolden Hall. Douglas Hensley on Tar has served with the Victoria Symphony on guitar, lute, mandolin, and banjo, and in 2008 joined Pacific Opera Victoria in Regina. Faraidoun Akhavan has more than 20 years of experience on Kamancheh, and Iman Bulghani will be joining us on Santour.

Asmira's School of Belly Dance will be performing to a variety of songs which will include creatively choreographed persian dances.

Masala is a 15-person mobile percussion ensemble, all acoustic, always ready for a dance party. West African, Afro Cuban, Haitian, Brazilian mash up. They love to play for whoever loves to dance!
