For this Christmas season, Artistic Director Glenda Korella has mined that deep vein of songs celebrating this joyous season. The “Comin’ Up Christmas Time” concert series will present songs from the middle ages to melodies composed in the 21st century.  Her 65-member show chorus will entertain you with traditional carols in new arrangements, such as “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night”.  But count on music you may be unfamiliar with, such as British composer John Rutter’s “Candlelight Carol” or a tongue twister from Audrey Snyder about the “Lights of December.”  Even early rock ‘n roll legend Chuck Berry got in the spirit of things with his “Run Rudolph Run”.  And so will the Singers when they reprise that rocking sound.

A popular feature of any Peninsula Singers’ concert lets the men step on to the stage by themselves where they inevitably ham it up. This concert, they’ll take on the Beach Boys’ “Little Saint Nick”. Not to be outdone, the Women of the Peninsula Singers will take you on a stroll down “Candy Cane Lane.” The moving “God Bless Us Everyone”, made famous by Andrea Bocelli in the Disney version of “A Christmas Carol” will close out the show.

Of course, there will be soloists drawn from the Singers’ ranks as well as the traditional “Spotlight on a Young Artist”, this time featuring a saxophone quartet from the University of Victoria’s School of Music.  And of course, humour, wacky costumes and choreography for those talented Singers, all directed by Ms. Korella.  Jim Kingham will take his place at the Master of Ceremonies pulpit and the Singers’ band of renown will be there in force:  Janet Yonge on piano, Lyn Korella on bass and Terry Erskine on percussion.

We expect to best our current record of sold out shows at the Mary Winspear Centre from the current twenty-five to twenty-eight.

Proceeds go to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation’s Music Therapy Program.
