You can start with “O Canada”, move on to First Nations’ love songs and poetry, stop along the way in the Maritimes, and then keep moving West. That’s what the Peninsula Singers have in store for you as they celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.

On this journey, the Singers will bring you music from all corners of our great land. Stalwart musician/composers such as Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell and the Rankin Family’s contributions to our heritage will be recognized. In between, we’ll include some more recent contributions to the Canada Songbook–from Tom Cochrane, to Neil Young and to Stompin’ Tom Connors.

Our country was built by an amazing array of immigrants and their stories will also be honoured. “I feel so fortunate that my first time as conductor, I pay tribute to Canada’s 150th birthday in song,” says Lena Palermo, the Singers’ new artistic director. “I knew there was a vast collection of music from which to choose, and so I was glad to dive into the choices I had.” Lena’s Cordova Bay Elementary Choir will round out the performance, along with our small “orchestra”, our Master of Ceremonies, Jim Kingham and YOU. Of course, you’ll want to join in on our traditional sing-a-longs and you’ll get your chance.
