ONLY CHILDREN is an engaging family memoir about childhood and Pat's quest to understand the truth about his parents’ lives and five siblings who never knew one another.

Through excerpts and songs, Pat reflects on his childhood, coming-of-age, a series of chance encounters and reckless misadventures including time spent on the road as a country-western singer named Chris Miller, and how he rebuilt his life in the Canadian Arctic.

Author and songwriter Pat Buckna has been very active in the music scene on the Sunshine Coast and Texada Island. He performs, produces concerts and has offered writing presentations at the Powell River Library.

His memoir Only Children has been getting excellent reviews from reader for his candid exploration of his interesting and unique family life. Pat has been writing music and performing since the early 1970’s and created the first record label in the Northwest Territories back in 1982. He’s been artist director of the Folk on Rocks Music Festival in Yellowknife, ran the stages for the Vancouver Folk Music Festival for several years and more recently has performed and MC’d the Texada Island Roots and Blues Festival. He has a recording studio (High Road Recording) on Texada Island and has worked with the Powell River Senior’s Writing group for the past nine years.

He is a graduate of The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University where he worked with mentors Stephen Osborne and Wayde Compton, attended Betsy Warlard’s Manuscript Intensive and has participated in a number Banff Writing Seminars with poet Elizabeth Philips, and Curtis Gillespie. He’s a member of the Federation of BC Writers and the Alberta Writers Group.
