PARADE: A Major Line-Up of Abstract Paintings
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Parade explores the relationship among a full spectrum of colors and shades in an abstract journey that for each canvas begins with no pre-conceived destination and evolves toward a point of harmony. My work is a kind of wordless meditation transforming mind into matter and expressed as energy moving in space. The paintings are an expression of the spirit, energy, confusion, surprise, excitement, tragedy, unpredictability, drama, and innocence we have collectively experienced through lifetimes. The work draws from the vulnerability and consciousness gained through these experiences without their graphic portrayal.
Out of the raw elements of color and line, I am challenged to impose a visual order that transcends the randomness and establishes emotional and intellectual depth. To be truly inspirational it means following 'a divine impulse of delight'. And so I look for this and follow. I like to let a painting emerge as unhindered as possible from the white canvas of the uncatalogued mind.
Each painting then is given a life of it's own that progresses at it's own speed unbounded by any rules of form or time, sometimes taking years before reaching its final still point. This is the point of harmony of the painting, as determined by both itself and myself together. It is a point of unity I try to recognize as the mysterious moment that paradoxically freezes a flowing, living record of itself into crystalline 'perfection'. Perfection is an ideal worthy of admiration but a hard-driving muse.
In my new work I will be following an element of mystery as the paintings subtly approach image without becoming anything at all, so that in striving for conceptual meaning the viewer is gently turned back to the pure aesthetic experience.
Parade opens on Saturday night April 28 from 7 9 pm. at the Martin Bachelor Gallery.
