Painting: The Lure of the Local

This thematic-based painting course is inspired by writer and art critic Lucy Lippard's book of the same title. The focus will be on understanding our relationship to place as a source for subject matter. Projects will include ideas around memory, land use, cities and suburbs, perception of nature, how we produce the landscape and how the landscape affects our lives. Students can work in a painting medium of their choice (acrylic, oil, watercolour or gouache). Some painting experienced required.
