Painting: Stripes as Structures & Subject

This painting course will focus on the way stripes can be used in painting to create composition, pattern and rhythm. Students will be introduced to the ways artists have included this approach in painting where object and ground become equal, opening a new insight to modernism. Hard-edge and hand-drawn edges will be considered as well as overlapping and glazing techniques. Compositions will be created incorporating ideas around scale, colour and value juxtaposition. A list of guidelines and project directions will be assigned. Some painting experience is recommended.
