Wednesday, October 8th, 7-9pm, PACE-PA presenting the documentary SCHOOLIDARITY
Parents and Concerned Educators of Port Alberni (PACE-PA) present SCHOOLIDARITY. Follows two significant struggles with the public education system and workers' rights--the weeks'-long 2011 mass occupation of the Wisconsin capitol building, and the 2012 Chicago teachers' strike--from the perspectives of Chicago and Wisconsin public school teachers fighting for the benefit of all their students. SCHOOLIDARITY provides a history of the issues surrounding the weakening and privatization of urban public schools in the United States. By documenting the ascent of the activist teacher caucus CORE, Chicago's public schools crisis is analyzed as an assault on public sector unions, where battle defeats are just as important to examine as victories in order to ensure justice in education for all. Admission to the screening is by donation. Running time is approximately 90 minutes. Coffee and tea will be available. For more information on the showing, please contact [email protected] .
