Oyster Farm Tour and Cruise

Learn about this sustainable method of raising oysters. The owners will give a demonstration on the workings of the farm and answer any questions. The Chef on board will prepare some of their product on the trip back to Comox.

The Comox Valley is known for its oysters and sells them all over the world. Baynes Sound is the protected water between Denman and Vancouver Islands and it is the home of a substantial shellfish industry. On this trip we will cruise from Comox to a deep-water oyster farm in Baynes Sound. Greg and Hollie Wood own Hollie Wood Oysters and are passionate about a healthy and sustainable eco-system. They specialize in small plump oysters that can be eaten raw. We will get fresh oysters (or clams and mussels ) from the farm that will be prepared by a Chef onboard for the trip home. This trip takes 3.5 hours including the informative stop at the deep-water oyster farm and a stop at Tree Island. The cruise to and from the farm will pass by many interesting sights and we are always looking for the abundant wildlife that lives in the area.

Meeting area: Driving from Courtenay, go to Comox. Turn right off Comox Avenue onto Church Street [first 4 way stop]. At the end of Church St. turn left on Beaufort then immediately right on Wilcox, passing our town hall, to drive down to the boat launch ramp. Parking is free; walk right past the parking meter to our sandwich board sign. A crewmember will meet passengers here on the walkway to the left of the boat launch ramp. This is in front of one of the gates that go down to the marina docks where we load passengers. Please be at the meeting area 15 minutes before departure time.
