The recently formed Opera Nanaimo Society presents the fourth and final concert in their 2014 Opera Gems Series: Gems for Intrigue & Fantasy, an evening of classical and operatic song.

The program features Victoria based Soprano Sarah Vardy and Baritone Andrew Greenwood from Vancouver, and introduces local Nanaimo vocal students Lauryn Collins and Liam Robertson. Piano accompaniment by Sharon Wishart of Nanaimo.

Sarah Vardy has delighted audiences across Canada, Europe & China. "She stands out wherever she sings with a combination of vocal passion and rich characterization" (Saskatoon Star Phoenix). Her 2013 European debut of Tosca with Opera Wroclawska was "Victorious" (KulturalOnline.pl). Sarah conveys "deep emotion and rich and unique vocal tones" (Wroclaw Gazeta). Sarah continues to work with renowned Canadian tenor Richard Margison and soprano Christiane Riel in Highland Opera Studio. In 2014 Sarah is invited to tour China with orchestra and is currently studying voice with renowned singer Rebecca Hass.

Andrew Greenwood is much in demand as an opera, oratorio and concert singer in North America and Europe. He has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras across Canada. His opera credits include title roles in Rigoletto, Macbeth, Nabucco and the Marriage of Figaro. Oratorio credits include The Messiah, Beethoven's Ninth and Choral Fantasy, The Bach Passions and the Requiems of Mozart, Verdi, Faure, Brahms and Durufle.

Opera Nanaimo is pleased and excited to welcome Sarah and Andrew to our October 25 concert.
