OPENING RECEPTION: September's Art Exhibit at the McMilan Arts Centre

Oceanside Community Arts Council and the McMillan Arts Centre are pleased to present September’s exhibit “MASTERFUL COLOUR AND STYLE” an exhibition of outstanding art by The Federation of Canadian Artists – Arrowsmith Chapter, The Silk Worm Group and Debra Kuzbik.

The exhibit and sale will continue from September 1st – 26th . There will be an Opening Reception Saturday, September 5th from 1:00 – 3:00 - a wonderful occasion to meet the artists and enjoy some complimentary refreshments.

These collective artists have unique and fresh ways of looking at the world, translating their revelation onto silk, paper, canvas and whatever other materials they find necessary to elucidate and illuminate their interpretation of the abstract and reality.

The Federation of Canadian Artists and its eleven Canadian Chapters were founded in 1941 by a group of Canadian artists, including the Group of Seven luminary, Lawren Harris. There are currently over 2000 members across Canada. One of three chapters on Vancouver Island, the Arrowsmith Chapter was formed in 1995 and has since grown to its present roster of over 80 members. These artists represent the visual arts community from Victoria to Quadra Island and all points in between, with many residing in the Parksville/Qualicum area.

The Silk Worm Club was founded in January 200 by Maureen Walker, AFCA and began with 3 members. Now, 16 years later the club has 12 exceptionally active artists. The Silk Worm club is open to silk painters who have reached the Intermediate Level of silk painting technique. This ensures members are proficient and confident with their use of the medium. Silk painting is an ancient art that has existed for over 6000 years and is truly classified as a fine art form No other medium offers the versatility of using dye on silk while producing such vibrant colours. Each club member is constantly reaching to the next level of competence with their work and sharing their findings with each other at club meetings. The joy of silk painting silk is like no other.

For Photographer, Debra Kuzbik, the natural world in general, and forests, in particular, has long been a source of wonder, personal renewal and inspiration for her photography. She prefers to interpret, rather than record the world around her honouring, the transient beauty of the moment.
