Taken as a challenge by the musical avant-garde, Vexations by Erik Satie can take upward of twenty-four hours to perform. Christopher Reiche will give a rare solo performance of a musical marathon that is usually performed as a tag-team relay.
Much like kilometres run can be sponsored in marathons, repetitions can be sponsored at $10 each or 3 for $25. Funds raised from this event will support future Open Space programming. These can be purchased at Open Space or online at vexations.brownpapertickets.com.
On Friday, June 21, 2013, beginning at noon, as a celebration of each sponsored repetition, the performance will begin. It will continue until finished.
Christopher Reiche first played Vexations as a continuous solo house concert from June 30 to July 1, 2009. It took him twenty-six and a half hours.
