Spine is an artist book project by Anne Steves that combines her drawing and thread-based studio practice with an interest in the act of string figure making.
Steves has been researching the history of string figures and the attempts by anthropologists to document these momentary forms and their use in discussions of contemporary scientific and philosophical thought. During her production residency, she will use this information as inspiration to explore her own relationship and understanding of string figures as she creates an artist book in the Open Space environment. Flask Publishing is a partner in the project.
