Open Bulrush Poetry Reading at Buttertubs Marsh
Sunday, July 8, 1–3 pm, Free
The way we speak about plants shapes the way we perceive them. Join us as local poets and performers read their works about flowers, mosses, ferns and forests on a walk around Buttertubs Marsh. Afterwards, we'll unwind with snacks and drinks at the Miner's Cottage. This reading is part of The Surroundings, a series of public events occurring outside of the gallery walls that echo some of the ideas proposed in our current exhibition, The Orchids / Had the Look of Flowers That Are Looked At, but bring them into our local environment. We are pleased to include Emika Asani, Aldona Dziedziejko, Kerri Flanagan, Carole Harmon, Tim Lander, Amber Morrison, Nicky Ruddell, Beth Skala, Gregory Skala, and Naomi Wakan (Nanaimo's Poet Laureate from 2013-2016) on our bill. Please meet us at the Miner's Cabin near the Buttertubs Marsh parking lot, where we will begin and end the approximately two-hour walk.
