Maureen Alexander presents ONE MAN’S DREAM: THE HISTORY OF THE MALAHAT HIGHWAY as part of the monthly Speaker Series hosted by the Victoria Genealogical Society.
Join us for a screening of the fascinating and hilarious story of Major James McFarlane who singlehandedly surveyed the route for the Malahat and whose persistence got the road built. Major McFarlane was a real character, an Irishman who friends and family thought was crazy for attempting something everyone said was impossible.
The film is a blend of archive material along with re-enactments by dozens of actors. It features many island locations and takes the viewer from the early 1900s to the present. Maureen Alexander is a retired teacher, research consultant and founder of the Bamberton Historical Society, the Mill Bay/Malahat Historical Society and the Seeds and Salt Theatre Co. She is also a partner in the new Heritage Museum in Mill Bay.
Doors to the Lower Church Hall open a 7pm with presentations beginning at 7:30.
