Oceanside Emergency Preparedness Expo 2017

Expo 2017 offers something for everyone and it’s all free! Displays, demonstrations and workshops to learn about the challenges we face in an emergency and how to be better prepared. Opportunities for residents to ask questions and get the best information on how to be better prepared for emergencies. (You can even bring your fire extinguisher to be tested). Food services available on site during the day.

Many community partners will be on hand to share strategies and skills to help individuals and families become more self-reliant and prepared for any disaster.

Here are a few of the local emergency services, agencies and organizations participating on May 27:

Access Oceanside Association Arrowsmith Search and Rescue,  Aztec Off Grid Solutions, BC Ambulance Service, BCSPCA, BC Hydro, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, Fortis BC, Insurance Bureau of Canada, Island Health, Oceanside Community Policing, Oceanside RCMP, Outsider Adventures,  Regional Fire Departments, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, Red Cross, Wholesale Sports.

For those who would like more in-depth information about preparedness in general, free workshops (30-45 minutes in duration) will be offered:

• 10 am Adventure Smart – Outdoor Safety for Recreational Walkers Michael Addiscott, Outsider Adventures Inc

• 11 am Importance of Insurance in Emergency Preparedness Aaron Sutherland, Insurance Bureau of Canada

• Noon Surviving the First Few Hours – Preparedness for the hours immediately after a major disaster Michael Addiscott, Outsider Adventures Inc

• 1 pm Preparedness Challenges at Different Stages of Life - Preparing with health concerns in mind Brent Scrivens, (HEMBC) Health Emergency Management British Columbia

• 2 pm Adventure Smart – Outdoor Safety for Recreational Walkers Michael Addiscott, Outsider Adventures Inc

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND? Are you prepared for an emergency? If the answer is “no”, then we encourage you to stop by Expo 2017. Whether you are just curious, casually interested or someone who is seriously prepared, there is something for you at this Expo. Disasters may be beyond our control, but there are ways to reduce the risk and the impact of whatever emergency we might face.
