Ocean Discovery Centre: Ocean Advocates Camp

Ocean Advocates is a new four-day camp for kids who have completed Grades 6 or 7.

This camp combines some of the campers’ favourite experiences from our Salish Sea School with new and exciting marine science activities—intertidal transects and surveys, experiments, salmon dissection, plankton tow—and explorations.

New excursions for this camp include a whale-watching zodiac adventure and a trip to Russell Island, part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve only accessible by private boat. Along with discovering the marine and plant life of Russell Island, campers will delve into its history and learn about the island’s Hawaiian settlers through a homestead tour guided by descendants of those settlers. An opportunity to visit the First Nations Clam Garden Restoration project on Russell Island may also be possible based on tides and Parks Canada staff availability.

Campers will finish this camp with a broader knowledge of our local ecosystem and a drive to conserve it. Guidebook included (Value $25.95).
