Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre extends an invitation for the public to join us on Saturday, October 10th, 2015, at 11:00am, for the official opening of The Man Behind the Masks: The Life and Legacy of Chief Billy Assu and the return of his historic House Posts from Ottawa. Standing more than twenty-feet each, these poles were removed and sold from the Village of Cape Mudge almost ninety-years ago. Chief Assu’s beautiful Chilkat Blanket woven by Mary Hunt and on loan from the Museum of History will also be on display.
The Cultural Centre has recently undergone a reconfiguration of its main and upper floor gallery spaces. New exhibits and information offer greater opportunities to create dialogue and discussion among community members and visitors alike. This in turn helps generate broader, more respectful dialogue on the important role our First Nations played in the settlement of British Columbia and Canada.
We hope that you will join us for this remarkable event and community feast. Everyone is welcome. Admission is by donation.
