Non-Human Persons Art Exhibit

Curated by Teresa Knight, this show brings together four artists from across Canada: Fiona Hawkes, Carla Stein, Ian Fry, and Katarina Pravdivaia. Working in mediums that include large format charcoal drawings on paper to acrylic on canvas, each artist brings a unique view of the "person" that resides in the various species that inhabit our shared planet.

The show was inspired by a 2015 landmark decision made by a high-level court in Argentina recognizing that at least one non-human species, orangtuans, have basic rights such as life, liberty, and freedom from harm. This decision will help lead the way to reversing the harmful and often brutal ways in which human beings have related to other species.
