NOMAD JONES
A Western Canadian Bluegrass Band
Nomad Jones will be loading up the wagons for a 9-day tour from June 8 to June 16 that will take them from the Summerland Bluegrass Festival through to the Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival, wrapping up with a show at the Victoria Folk Music Society. Other shows along the way include house concerts in Kamloops and Nanaimo and music venues in both Tofino and Parksville.
Over the past three years, Nomad Jones has become a fan-favourite throughout Western Canada. Drawing from a wide repertoire rooted in traditional bluegrass, Nomad Jones will entertain you with their blood harmonies, amusing anecdotes and intriguing instrumentals.
Three distinct pairing become immediately obvious as Nomad Jones performs. The first thing to catch your attention, center stage, two voices singing as one with the father and son blood harmonies of Bill and Nico Humby. In and around the vocals, filling the room with colours and emotions, the instrumental virtuosity of the veteran duo of Craig Korth and Byron Myhre. Next you become aware of the energetic and entertaining musicianship of the two young guns, Miles Zurawell and Nico Humby. Nomad Jones melds 5 individuals and three pairs into one engaging ensemble.
Individually Nomad Jones is:
Nico Laroche-Humby (Edmonton, AB) on bass and vocal. Spry, energetic, Nico is a doghouse bass player, singer and songwriter who’s dipped his fingers in a multitude of genres ranging from R&B, funk, and swing to folk, bluegrass, and classic country. Along with being a founding member of Nomad Jones, Nico has circled the globe over the past year with such bands as Jeff Scroggins and Colorado, John Lowell and the Greg Blake Band.
Miles Zurawell (Victoria, BC) on banjo, resonator guitar and vocals. A performer, recording artist and teacher based in Victoria, Miles is an exceptional multi-instrumentalist who has toured internationally with renowned bluegrass acts such as the Greg Blake Band, John Lowell and Blaine Sprouse.
Byron Myhre (Edmonton, AB) on fiddle. A second-generation North American old-time fiddle grand champion and talented multi-instrumentalist, Byron is a stalwart supporter of the acoustic music scene in Alberta. If you ever are in Edmonton, be sure to check out his family run music store for the best selection of acoustic instruments west of the Red River!
Craig Korth (Nelson, B.C.) on guitar and vocals. Craig brings vast knowledge to the band with over 40 year experience taking the stage across North America. On top of his brilliant playing, he offers his hilarious insights into the history of the music, the players and the instruments. He is an accomplished luthier, and along with his wife Julie Kerr, they run the NimbleFingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Workshop and Festival in Sorrento B.C. every summer.
Bill Humby (Nanaimo, B.C.) on vocals and guitar. Singing his heart out on lead and harmony vocals and providing rooted rhythm guitar. Bill has a vast musical background that includes performing in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas in junior high, drumming in a lounge band, and singing with the Real Humdingers (with son Nico and daughter Paula) on a French Canadian reality television show. Since catching the bluegrass bug 20 odd years ago, Bill is continually searching for new material with that trademark bluegrass harmony hook to add to the diverse Nomad Jones song catalog.
Their first album entitled "Pickin' Up & Puttin' Down" was released in August 2018.
