On April 22, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. Open Space presents New Guitars featuring Alexander Dunn with guitarists Robert Ward, Douglas Hensley, Brian Desjarlais. Guests Sylvina Samuel (cello), Alex Olsen (contrabass) and Alex Jang (conductor) will join the ensemble to present a concert of new music for acoustic guitars. In conjunction with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival, this concert follows themes reflecting on social media.
New Guitars features music that makes use of quotation and musical reference in the same way we share, hash tag and make memes.
Featuring prominently on the concert will be Jacob TV’s composition Jesus is coming. The concert will also include works by Sofia Gubaidulina, Ronald Bruce Smith, and Victoria composer Liova Bueno.
