New Buddhism is is devoid of authority and the supernatural. Tradition, titles, robes and ritual are absent. New Buddhism is an informal term used to describe the kind of Buddhism practiced and advocated by modern Western Buddhists such as Jack Kornfield, Stephen Hagen, Sharon Salzberg, Joeseph Goldstein, Toni Packer and Stephen Bachelor.

It is not however simply a new age mash-up of spirituality. New Buddhism is still primarily focused on the study and practice of the Buddha's original core teachings of The Four Noble Truths and The EightFold Path.

This group is open to all those interested in or new to Buddhism or anyone currently or previously involved in any Buddhist organization or group. All are welcome.

In addition to organizing regular gatherings, this group is intended to encourage and facilitate social connection, something many traditional practice groups do not include in their structure.

A number of courses regarding Buddhist fundamentals will also be offered. These will all be by donation and the donation is only intended to pay for any space rental costs.

As this is our first Meetup the agenda will be to just get to know each other and discuss what we hope to get out of future get togethers and what format they might take i.e. discussions, structured learning or something else.

James Bay Coffee & Books will reserve a semi-private area for us with the understanding that each attendee will purchase something to eat or drink.
