A resurgence, an awakening and a meeting place between old friends welcome to the Celtic fiddle collaboration Punters Reunion.
Having grown up in Victoria, Canada and Drumnadrochit, Northern Scotland respectively, these two diverse fiddler players met through the infamous traditional session scene of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. They draw upon their experience as performers, composers, tutors and collaborators reuniting for what promises to be a spectacular series of concerts.
Canadian folk fiddler Nellie Quinn inherited her great-grandfathers fiddle on which she has explored and become proficient in many different genres of music. Nellie recorded with indie band (no capitols) Italian Edition, and produced her first EP entitled From Past to Present which included traditional folk music and her own original tunes. Nellie has played with many prestigious groups including The British Columbia Fiddle Orchestra with whom she performed for over 40,000 people at the Canada Day celebrations in Victoria BC, Twisted String; a string group formed by Juno-nominated composer Oliver Schroer, as well as Fiddle Band from Newcastle University.
Chris Meredith is a Scottish fiddler and guitarist just back from his second tour in Norway with NE3Folk. An innovative composer and arranger, Chriss vibrant take on music has seen him play all over the UK and Europe, as well as for the BBC. From the prestigious Fiddles on Fire at Sage Gateshead, to performing in mental institutions for Live Music Now, he has honed his trade far and wide to become the performer he is today.
We are players, from two distinct styles and traditions. remarks Quinn. This project is very much a celebration of our common ground and stylistic nuances.
Their blend of traditional and modern Celtic folk music will captivate you and this collaboration will provide its audiences with dynamic and vivacious renditions of tunes, old and new. Punters Reunion will take listeners on a voyage of discovery and share some of the jubilant experiences their musical relationship has brought to them.
